Let’s build a brand that keeps your customers coming back!

When Jim Kraft of “2 Tin Cans And A String” (a telecom data cabling company) came to me with a new product idea I was fueled with creative ideas! He needed a logo and a complete branding package for his innovative new product “Squid Cabling Systems.”

Squid Cabling Systems is a patent pending patch panel solution that streamlines the installation of data cabling and identifies outlets - saving his current clients time and money. The product name “Squid” is derived from the shape of the product and its dangling cables. Hence, my excitement to illustrate the brand with a fun take on tentacles to represent the arms, cabling and wiring.

Once a concept is selected from the hand drawn pencil sketches, it is created in vector format using Adobe Illustrator. Each point, curve and handle is manually placed with precision.

A good logo must be versatile and first work in black and white.

How a logo and brand is born...

My branding and logo design process is unique. It all begins with an idea. Concepts are sketched by hand FIRST on paper! The computer is used as a tool to refine and finalize the brand. Unlike those fancy logo wizards and apps, my logos are custom drawn and expertly thought out. There’s no quick button for a strong logo and brand - unless you want a logo just like 600 other companies out there with the same cookie cutter “clip art.” Why would you want to look like everyone else? Your brand is unique, and your logo design should be as well.

After concept development, I draw the mark in vector format using Adobe Illustrator one anchor point at a time. This creates a high res. format that can be used on anything small and large including embroidery. I then explore typefaces and fonts if it’s not custom lettered. A good logo always starts in black and white. This is a must for a good design that works well on any substrate or size. Color exploration is the final step. I recommend a 2-3 color palette max so you can establish brand recognition with those swatches.

Lastly, how will your logo look on merchandise? Does it reverse out well on dark substrates?
