The Minks - Poster Design
When Kable House Presents came to me needing a poster designed offering complete creative control, I was thrilled! I love designing from a blank canvas and incorporating my hand drawn illustrations is an unmatched passion of mine. Hoot Design Studio was able to apply the combination of creativity all in one print design. Combining the art of graphic design and illustration is my expertise!
Honored to collaborate with the studio of Jeremy Friend on the custom lettering piece "Minks". His expert hand lettering skills add a beautiful breathtaking touch that truly elevated the look and design of the poster. Drawn from scratch and vectorized in Adobe Illustrator.
Creative Process.
Let me walk you thru my design process. I first begin by researching the client. In this case, the band The Minks - Nashville’s “psychedelic-bloos” band, heavy on the rock and roll. Nikki Barber's cover albums, social media and the band's website inspired me with carnations and fun muted color palettes. I began by sketching comps in pencil allowing my ideas to flow freely.
I narrowed in on a carnation as the main focal point and began a hand drawn illustration in pencil, which I later overplayed with ink. After digitizing the drawing, I began layout including a vector drawn guitar and texture pattern in Adobe Illustrator. I experimented with composition, color schemes, screen print techniques and placement of the elements in Photoshop.
The final design came together when I added the custom hand drawn lettering of the word The Minks in white. This made the entire composition pop!
